Many drivers find it difficult to use the Blue driver bidirectional tool, and if you happen to be one of them, then I’ll gladly show you how to use the blue driver OBD2 scanner.

This scanning tool is one of the best scanners in the market today. With it, you’ll be able to run a test after connecting it to any smart device. Once it is connected to the right console, it can send a signal to the device you’re using.

Note that Blue driver comes with its app that inputs data from your vehicle on your device, even though lots of other scanners require a third-party app to do so.

What is the difference between unidirectional and bidirectional scan

Irrespective of the kind of repair you want to perform in your car, there’s a need to use the right tools, and this includes the necessary scanner to diagnose any issue that affects the car. But first, you must know what is the difference between unidirectional and bidirectional scans.

The first thing to be aware of is that OBD scanners are used for all vehicle’s technical works. There are onboard computers in modern cars that are responsible for assisting you with different functionalities. Their advantage is that when you bring your vehicle to a mechanic, the scanner will just be plugged into the computer and download all the issues with your car. It can even show you problems that you haven’t discovered yet.

In today’s market, you’ll find different types of scanners which the newest version is bidirectional. It doesn’t just retrieve information from the scanner, but it can input information too.

The unidirectional scan measures between zero and positive. Its sensor only moves in one direction and doesn’t report any positive voltage or milliamp output. The unidirectional scan is utilized in large HVAC applications like monitoring static duct pressure. This means that there will be a connection of the high port to the point in the duct which is being monitored.

A perfect example is when you want to measure the differential pressure found in a filter to know if you will need to change the filter. So you’ll connect the high port to the inlet of the filter and then connect the low port to the discharge side. But the bidirectional scan gives commands to the automobile that it should follow.

The importance of this is that you might want your car to do certain things before you’ll get a clear understanding of the actual issue. So instead of getting help from another source or someone, you just send a command to the vehicle via bidirectional scan.

Is Blue driver bidirectional scanner

Yes, Blue driver is a bidirectional scanner, and it is one of the most impressive OBD2 scanners you will find in the market. The good thing about it is that it works with Android and iOS.

Its diagnostics reading provides multiple ranges of reports, which can be live and saved. This is because it allows you to watch in real-time how the transmission, engine, cooling, charging system, and other components are functioning.

Can Blue Driver program key fob

Yes, the blue driver scanner can effectively program key fobs for various cars, as it even supports ECU coding. However, be aware that it’s not a dedicated key programmer, but more of a diagnostic scanner that comes with the ability to make keys. The blue driver comes with a guide that allows even non-experts to easily create new keys for their cars.

Does the car have to be running to use an OBD2 SCANNER?

You must understand that the OBD2 scanner is a diagnostic scanning device that allows other electronics to interface with the computer system of your car. So whenever your vehicle’s sensors observe an issue, it triggers trouble codes which show as a warning light via your dash.

No, but you’ll need to turn on the engine and idle it without running your car if you must use the OBD2 scanner. This means that you should turn off your car first before plugging the OBD2 scanner to the OBD port, and then turn the engine on and wait for the scanner to boot up.

How to use a blue driver OBD2 scanner

I’ll be showing you simple ways on how to use the blue driver OBD2 scanner.

  • First, install the Blue driver App on your phone/tablet from the Google Play Store
  • Next, tap install.
  • Now pair your Blue Driver

Note that you can pair Blue Driver either through the app or via the Bluetooth settings menu on your phone/tablet.

Follow these steps to do the In-App pairing:

First, the in-app pairing can only be done when there’s no current Blue Driver paired already on your phone or app. So in case you want to set up a second BlueDriver, then you have to manually pair it.

  • Now turn your ignition on
  • Then plug in the BlueDriver
  • Then wait for the solid blue light to go off
  • Get the BlueDriver app started.
  • Then tap connect which you’ll see in the top/right-hand corner of the app
  • Now tap Allow turning on Location Services
  • You need to tap Scan for BlueDriver Sensors
  • Now choose your new BlueDriver which you’ll see under Other Available BlueDriver Sensors
  • If you’re prompted to confirm a code or PIN, tap Pair. But if your phone needs a pin, then input 0000 or 1234.

There will be an automatic connection once the app is paired following these steps.

Bidirectional scanner

The bidirectional happens to be a scanning tool for diagnosing vehicles which allows mechanics to instruct a car. Not only that, but it also helps in retrieving information from the scanner, unlike other traditional scanners that are available, which come as read-only devices. The bidirectional scanners offer incredible possibilities when it comes to repairing cars.

Conclusion

As you have read, the unidirectional scan can only measure between zero and positive. As it comes with a sensor that only moves in one direction and cannot report any positive voltage or milliamp output. But bidirectional scanners can run system tests, perform ECU coding, and can have access to the engine control module. Bidirectional scanners are one of the best items any mechanic can add to their toolkit. You can purchase Bluedriver Scanner here on Amazon
