The Trac system works together with the VSC system.

The VSC which is “vehicle stability control (VSC) in a Toyota Corolla is responsible for preventing skidding while the TC is responsible for keeping the car wheels from spinning on a slippery surface.

And also some Toyota Car models come with a control switch to turn off the TC “traction control,” in case the car happens to be stuck.

How To disable TRAC or VSC | Trac Off Toyota Corolla


If for instance your car gets stuck in the fresh snow, mud, or swamp, then turning of the TC/Trac and VSC system may be the best option for you.

This is because the TRAC and VSC usually will reduce the power from the engine to the wheels in other for you have more control in cases of slip.

And right now, the best thing to do in the snow is for you to turn it off so your wheel will have the strength it needs to move in the snowy or muddy ground.

Simply push and release the switch to turn off TRAC. The TRAC OFF indicator light should come on. Push the switch again to turn the system back on and off depending on where you want to leave it at.

Fixing the Trac off and Check Engine Light Toyota corolla Problem.

So I’m going to show you how to perform what’s called a zero-point calibration to help fix the Trac off and Check Engine Light Toyota corolla Problem.

The first thing you have to do is make sure the vehicle is on a level surface, this is very important for to work.

Next disconnect both a positive and negative battery cable and wait 5 minutes.

After 5 minutes reconnect both cables back on to the battery and then locate the OBD which is your “Onboard diagnostic connection port” show here which is used to plug the auto scanner into.

It’s usually located on the driver’s side somewhere underneath your dashboard.

Next, you’ll have to find out on the OBB connection port for your vehicle which terminal connection is the CG that’s Charlie George

And which terminal connection is the TS that’s Tom Sam.  You should be able to find this in a repair manual for your specific vehicle.

How to Fix Trac Off and Check Engine Light Toyota Corolla

Next, you need to get 2 small paper clips. Do not use large paper clips because they will not fit into the terminals.

Next, straighten the 2 paper clips then take one of the paper clips and slip one into the CG terminal with the other end of the paperclip not touching anything.

Next, take the other paper clip and slip the other end into the TS terminal with the other end of the paperclip not touching anything.

Now take the 2 paper clips and then one on the end to the right and the other on the end to the left.

Now you have to take the free ends of the 2 paper clips and connect and disconnect them within 8 seconds as shown in the video below (time: 2:16)

 You have to make sure that your front wheels are lined up straight and also make sure your steering wheel is completely centred.

Now insert the ignition key and trying it all the way to the On position without starting the engine.

Be sure the shift lever is in park, if you have automatic transmission. If you have a manual transmission just make sure the parking brake is applied.

 Then perform these next steps making sure that you don’t shake, tilt, vibrate or move the vehicle in any way.

So now the car ignition key is all the way in the ON position without starting the engine.

There are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 touches of the paper clips.

There’s the ABS light flashing and there are the vs see light flashing.

Notice how they’re flashing slow and not flashing together. The manner in which your lights flash may be different.

This means the calibration data has now been cleared. Now turn the ignition key off.

It’s ready to be re-calibrated.

Hold the 2 paper clips together turn the ignition key to the ON position without starting the engine.

Then wait for the ABS and the VSC or slip light to start flashing.

Then they both light flashing should be flashing faster now and flashing together. Remember that the manner in which your lights flashes may be different.

This means it’s now been re-calibrated.

Now turn ignition key off and remove the 2 paper clips from the OBD connection port.

 Now turn the ignition key back to the on position. The light should have cleared now

Finally, step you need to try the driving the vehicle as straight as possible at 25 miles per hour. (mph) or faster for 10 seconds.
