Some years back, an old neighbor of mine introduced me to oil and an engine treatment product he called Seafoam, and he explained to me that he has been using it for years. However, I was wondering how possible this could be, using a single product in both his gas tank and his oil. So I researched and found testimonials of others who had used it before, then I decided to try it, and I’ve been using it ever since.

This product called Seafoam happens to be an additive responsible for cleaning fuel systems and cleaning the oil system. You can use it, just like me, for your car systems. It can fix idling issues, gunk in the oil, poor fuel economy, and the clogs in your injectors. For a complete Seafoam review, please read this article here, where I discussed both the positive and negative effects of using Seafoam on your car.

What is Seafoam in oil before and after

If you’re wondering what is Seafoam in oil before and after using it, then note that Seafoam liquefies residues that minimize oil flow and engine lubrication. So because of this, you should expect your engine performance to increase as well as reduce noise. Additionally, after you’ve used it, you’ll end up increasing the lifespan of the engine.

Just like any other product, Seafoam has both positive and negative results, but this depends on how you use it. However, when you search for Seafoam in oil reviews, it will give you an idea of the positive and negative results you’ll get.

As for me, using Seafoam thins my oil and minimizes the oil protecting properties. Additionally, Seafoam loosens gunk at some point, which starves the engine of oil or leads to clogging in the oil pickup. So the best thing that you need to do is to change your car oil at the recommended time and use Seafoam as instructed. But the truth remains that Seafoam improves fuel economy.

Whenever Seafoam is added to oil, it cleans up sludge, removes oil varnish, and reduces noisy lifters. Seafoam liquefies residues that minimize oil flow and engine lubrication. As the result, your engine performance will increase as well as minimize noise. Additionally, after you’ve used it, you’ll end up increasing the lifespan of your engine.

How to use Seafoam in oil

You can put Seafoam to your engine oil as many times as you change the oil. All you have to do is just add it to your engine’s oil filler opening. But ensure you check your oil always for clarity. Once you notice that it has become dirty (that is going from clear to dark), then change the oil and filter.

Instruction for use:

  • First, conclude how much Seafoam you intend to put into the oil. You can add 1 ounce to each quart of oil in the crankcase.
  • Take off the oil filler cap and add the amount of Seafoam that’s recommended directly into your engine crankcase. Please ensure you don’t exceed one treatment per oil change.
  • But for the best cleaning results, drive 100 to 300 miles before every oil and filter change. Note that you add Seafoam at any time between oil changes. Find out if adding too much seafoam in Oil tank can have any negetive effect on your car engine here.

Seafoam in oil how long to leave it

Seafoam must remove carbon from an engine. It cleans up the valves and combustion chambers along with the top piston ring.

Once poured, start the engine and allow it to run for two minutes, and then turn it off. Give the engine about five to fifteen minutes so that Seafoam will soak into the buildup deposits. Once it has soaked, restart the engine and then drive for about 30 miles.

What happens when there is, too much Seafoam in oil

There will be clogged jets due to debris and dirt sitting in the lines, carbs, and tanks, that’s what happens when there is too much Seafoam in oil.

How to use Seafoam in diesel oil

Here’s my recommendation on how to use Seafoam in diesel oil.

First, pour 1 to 1.5 ounces of the product into each quart of crankcase oil in diesel engines.

Adding a can of Seafoam can help in treating up to 16 quarts of motor oil. However, most trucks and cars have about 5 and 6-quart oil systems: this means half a can will be able to treat 5 or 6 quarts of oil.

Unlike other additives, Seafoam contains only petroleum-based ingredients. This means that it doesn’t have chemicals or detergents that harm the engine.

What Seafoam does is help in dislodging and re-liquefying buildups and clogs so that they can be removed and filtered out. Make sure you use 1.5 ounces of Seafoam for every quart of oil, this is the best practice.

Be aware that when you use Seafoam in your engine oil, you must immediately change the vehicle’s oil. However, I like adding Seafoam to my engine oil before going for an oil change, and I advise you to do so.

Most times I pour in the amount of Seafoam as instructed and then drive off to where I change my oil, which is around 20 miles from my house. Though this is a little bit less than recommended. Generally, Seafoam according to a recommendation should remain in the oil for about 30 and 60 miles of driving, which allows it to break up the sludge in the oil due to enough time given before changing out the old oil.

However, it’s vital to ensure you change your oil filter after changing your oil. Adding Seafoam will re-liquefy the old sludge in the oil and make the engine oil very dirty. It’s important to ensure you don’t drive too long with it in your oil.

Conclusion

As said before, Seafoam treatment is an additive that’s responsible for cleaning fuel systems as well as cleaning the oil system which can be used in every type of gasoline or diesel engine

Once it is added to an engine’s oil, it works in cleaning and liquefying heavier oil deposits, making the residues drain away whenever the oil is changed. Seafoam also prevents sludge and other harmful oil formations and cleans internal engine components.
