The recommendation is that you perform a throttle calibration when the throttle is unresponsive or slow. You can do this by following the steps below;

  • Insert ignition key and turn the key to “ON” not start.
  • You need wait for all dashboard light to go off. The check engine light may remain on.
  • Now gently depress the accelerator pedal completely to the floor
  • Slowly release the accelerator until it is back up all the way.
  • Turn the ignition key to “OFF”.
  • Then restart the car engine again.

The throttle calibration can be pretty useful when you have no idea what is going on and have to go somewhere fast.

Throttles used to be connected to the car pedals with wires. But with the advancement of technology, physical linkages have been replaced with sensors and actuators. This system allows the car to have better fuel economy and engine performance, however, if there is a problem with the throttle sensors you can lose control whime driving. Fixing this type of fault is far more complicated than reconnecting broken wires in the old days.  It is safer to drive with a car having an electric throttle sensor but more expensive to fix.

What does it mean when the electronic throttle light comes on?

The electronic light comes on when the throttle system is faulty. The throttle system comprises of the throttle body itself, the accelerator and sensors. The lights may come on when the system is running checks to see if everything is alright. When it is done, it goes off.

However if the light stays on, then there is a problem to resolve. One of the ways t troubleshoot is to use an OBD-II Reader. With this tool you can find out with 100 percent certainty what the issue is. Alternatively you can call a professional to check with their own tools and let you know what the problem is.

What causes an electronic throttle control problem for Chrysler 300?

Different related problems can lead to an electronic throttle problem. However, one of the simplest way to know which part is giving issues is to read the diagnostic codes. The code readers will tell you the reason the code appeared.

It can be one of the following;

1. A faulty throttle control sensor

In a modern throttle system, when one control sensor goes bad, the entire throttle system stops working. It is just like in the Chainsmokers song “Paris” where they kept singing; “If we go down, we go down together.” Funny stuff. When it happens, you may be stuck, the good news is that the Throttle light will inform you so that you can do something about it.

2. A faulty accelerator pedal position sensor or module

The electronic throttle has a lot of sensors that send signals in the form of flashing dashboard lights. The accelerator pedal position sensor’s job is to send the current position of the accelerator pedal to the control module.

Once any of these components wear out or get faulty, a flashlight will be displayed on the dashboard. Once you see this, know that it means the system will not work properly.

3. A stuck throttle body

The throttle body is the major component in the throttle system. Once the body gets stuck, the system will malfunction. When this happens, you should call an expert to better understand but what has happened and why.

You can open and close the throttle body and check for any visible obstructions.

how to fix electronic throttle control jeep compass

Time to learn how to fix electronic throttle control jeep compass (Dodge Ram). Once you learn the symptoms and the reason, it will be easier to go through the solution.

You do not need to worry if you have another type of truck engine this basically will apply to most engines.

Without too much pretense, here is steps to  fix electronic throttle:

1. Clean your throttle body /cover

As mentioned above, rust is one of the most common causes of the malfunctioning of an electronic throttle body. The solution is to thoroughly clean the rust.

If the body is covered with rust, the engine valve will not move properly and will prevent air from entering the engine. Of course, this is what leads to problems.

It is often recommended to use throttle body detergent or stainless steel or rust removerSee this one here on Amazon.

2. Connect Everything back together

In some cases where there is no physical damage, rust or corrosion, but you notice loose cables or sensors. Then the answer, of course, is to reconnect back together with the disconnected cables and sensor then check to see if the system has started working as it should work.

You usually see sensors near your body. It is important to verify that everything is properly connected and connected.

One way to make everything work better is to remove the sensor from the lock, clean it, and plug it back in. Make sure there are no loose cables. This could solve the problem.

3. Change or Replacement the Hose

If the test the throttle body and sensor cables but all thing seems to be good, then you can also look at the boxing problem and hose pipe issues.

This hose pipe is what connects the car engine computer to the system of the throttle. If it stops working normally the throttle systems bear it.

First, just check if it’s connected correctly (you can check if there are free ends or any lost connections).

In some cases, the host may be leaking because it broke somewhere so you need a check for that, and then you need to replace it with another one.

If none of the steps above seems to help fix the electronic throttle control jeep compass problem, then you most likely will have to replace the throttle system completely by yourself or by a professional.

Please watch this video to see the steps clearly.

how to replace electronic throttle control system

1. Find your car Throttle Control

And if you have no idea where the slipped body is or what it looks likes, just don’t worry, it looks like a pump and connects directly to the throttle sensors and air filter. You will find it at the top or near your engine.

On most trucks, it is covered in plastic or metal cases. So when the cables and pipes come out, a little box looks like the part.

2. Remove the throttle body

To proceed to the next step with the replacement; it is necessary to use a screwdriver to disassemble everything. In some cases, you will need a wrench tool kit like this one here on Amazon.

Either way, loosen and gently remove the cap. This releases the body from the throttle.

3. Unplug everything

Then proceed to unplug everything. This includes the hose that connects the air filter and the sensor cables on the other side. Then proceed to disconnect from the rest of the body by removing the bolts. You may need a key for this. Finish off by removing the throttle body.

4. Install the new body

With room for the new body throttle intake, you should have no trouble setting it up.

If you have the correct body throttle, it will take 5-10 minutes to set it up. Follow the same transfer process, but in reverse.

Then tighten the bolts, reconnect the hose, cables, and replace the cover. Then you are done. If you need help setting up the slippery body, we applaud you watch this video here:

Can you drive with a bad electronic throttle control

The simple answer to this question is yes. You can drive your car even when the electronic throttle control system is bad and faulty but I will not advise you do that because if your car electronic control sensor is bad, your vehicle will not operate at it optimal state and as result; it makes it unsafe you the driver and your passengers too. Also driving with a bad electronic throttle control sensor can cause damage to other systems and parts of your vehicle which result in more expensive repair cost. So I will advise you to fix bad electronic throttle control issues as quickly as possible before it escalates.

Besides, any trouble codes that your bad throttle position sensor may have triggered to be sent to your engine computer had to be resolved and cleared completely. Otherwise, your car will not pass a US smog inspection test if needed. You also will find it difficult to sell your car be it to a an individual or dealer. So basically driving with a bad throttle position sensor is not a good idea at all;  you should have a bad throttle position sensor fixed immediately you noticed the issue.
