Why car shakes when braking at high speeds?

  • Bad Brake and Thin Rotors

When you try braking at high speed and your vehicle wobbles, shake or vibrates, then its time to perform a thorough check on your brake.

The main reason why your car shakes when braking at high speeds is due to a problem in your car brake.  and a damaged rotor. Bakes helps take away materials from the pads and discs and as the car rotors get too thin, they become more vulnerable to warping due to the heat produced while baking and this causes the rotors to go bad resulting to shaking and vibration while braking at high speed.

This can also happen when braking at low speed too.

How to Fix car shakes when braking at high speeds not rotors?

You may be able to solve this problem in more than one ways.

First, you have to take away the car bake rotor then take it to a car shop and have it turned and texted.

There at the shop, the shop will first have the rotors measured to establish the thickness. If the rotors are too thin, then they are not meant to turn it legally.

And this brings us to the second solution for you. when your rotor is thin as diagnosed by a car shop, you will in this situation change the Rotors. So you will need to buy new rotors and swap them with the old ones. The Best practice is for you to consider a change of pads as well, when at 88, 513 kilometres if you haven’t done a front brake job on your car.

  • Bad and Out of Place Tires

The next reason a car shakes when braking at high speeds is due to a tire-related issue. Problem your tire will definitely make it shake, most especially when they are not balanced. The vibration will intensify when your driving speed gets to 32 to 48 kilometre per hour and will keep increasing as you also increase your speed higher.

For a tire problem, you want to look out for irregular wear on the car tires or a deflated tire. Be certain the car 4 tires are properly inflated without any rough or irregular wear on it.

This may also cause a Steering wheel vibration at high speed

Out of balance tires can also cause a car steering wheel vibration at high speed.  This could occur when you run your car frequently on a bad road that is full of rough patches, potholes and uneven stones.

Misplaced and misaligned car is the cause tires to wears out quickly, which then results in a steering wheel shakes at high speeds. You should also bear in mind that brake calliper may also be responsible for this too especially in old cars.  When your car shakes at high speed of about 50m per hour and then produces a burning smell, then we recommend you take your car to a mechanic or an auto shop around you.

why Car shakes when braking at low speeds | Steering Wheel Shakes at Low Speed

  • Warped brake rotors can cause vibration at low speeds.

The Main Causes of a Steering Wheel Shakes at Low Speed is due to brake rotors. They are the first thing to consider if you notice a steering wheel wobble on low speed and braking.

For this problem, I will recommend you change the car wrap brake rotor or take it to an auto shop for text on the thinness/thickness of the rotor if could be repaired without total replacement.

  • Bent Driveshaft may also cause car to Shake at low speeds.

If you own a car that has an RWD (Rear Wheel Drive), then this might happen to your car.

With an RWD present in your car, power that comes through the car engine to rear axle and wheels are usually delivered with the help of the driveshaft or the car propeller shaft.

So when the driveshaft is bent or bad, it will make the car to shake when moving at a low speed. The shake and vibration will normally intensify as the car increases in speed and run faster.

Fix for this problem is to replace the driveshaft since one cannot repair a damaged driveshaft.
