Imagine being at the dealership and looking for the perfect Chevrolet toward the end of this year that will last for many years to come, but you are confused as to which of the Chevrolet models will stand the test of time that is best for you.
Before you choose, what if I told you that there are three popular Chevrolet models you might be considering right now that are a real disaster in today’s Auto market and you should stay away from them?
Yes, I know choosing the right car can be quite a challenge especially when you’re dealing with a widely known brand with as many options as Chevrolet which is why, we conducted this thorough analysis based on expert opinions, real consumer reviews, and reports to help you make an informed decision.
In this article, we are looking at three Chevrolet models that we want you to stay away from this year. Our decision is based on the fact that they showed the most common failure rate, had the most negative reviews, and did not meet lots of customer expectations as promised.
And since it would not be kind of us to leave you with only the bad news, AKA, the bad Chevrolet option; we went ahead to research and analyze four additional excellent Chevrolet options that stand out for their quality, safety, and value for money you should choose from.
3 Worst Chevrolet Cars Not to Buy
No. 1 – The Chevrolet Camaro
The first car we analyze which we are talking about in this article is, none other than the Chevrolet Camaro.
Although the Chevrolet Camaro is widely admired for its performance on the track, it has way more significant shortcomings that make it a questionable choice for everyday use which is why we consider it a bad choice for you.
Let’s not even talk about the fact that, its price point of about $30,900 is not the lowest on the market, you find better vehicles for less.
For starters, the interior of the Camaro is disappointing, the visibility outward is quite limited due to the fact the driver’s seat is positioned too low and then the small windows, making it difficult to drive safely, especially in city traffic and during parking.
I will simply say that the rear seats are virtually useless for adults; the space is so small that small kids can hardly fit in and be well accommodated.
The trunk of the Chevrolet Camaro is also small, with cargo capacity limited to just 9.3 cubic feet on coupe models and even less on convertibles.
Its access is tricky due to how small the openings are and the raised trunk edge height too.
Well, if these things don’t matter to you, go ahead, this could be your car but for us, they do and we thought you could do better.
The Camaro lineup starts with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 335 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque.
A six-speed manual transmission is included as standard, but a 10-speed automatic transmission is also available as an option.
Both settings allow it to accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.0 seconds. Despite these incredible Camaro performances, that still doesn’t make up for its high fuel consumption.
With the V6 engine, EPA ratings are 18 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway with an automatic transmission, which is already in our opinion, mediocre.
Now, you may think that the V8 models might be better right? Well, let me burst your bubble, the Camaro versions with the V8 engine are even worse, with ratings of 16 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway with a manual transmission.
And the supercharged versions drop even further, reaching just 13 MPG in the city and 21 MPG on the highway.
This translates into high fuel costs and a significant damaging environmental footprint, which makes it clear that despite good engine performance this car is not a good option to buy.
No. 2 – Chevrolet Malibu
Coming in second place on our list of worst Chevrolet Cars Not to Buy, is the 2024 Chevrolet Malibu put at a price of $24,700 dollars.
Although the Chevrolet Malibu has conservative styling and a clean interior, it also has several other significant disadvantages or cons that make it an unrecommended choice for us.
And so, we will say; just don’t buy don’t buy them except if the following cons do not matter to you.
First, for us, the overall design is just uninspiring and the infotainment system, while being easy to use, stilldoes not make up for its lack of excitement when driving likewise the interior design as well.
The 2024 Chevrolet Malibu is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 163 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.
Though the continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) provides a smooth ride, the engine is considerably less powerful than most of its competitors from our analysis.
Also, though the EPA ratings reach up to 36 MPG on the highway and 32 MPG combined, this is lower when compared to the hybrid options like the Toyota Corolla, which gives a combined fuel consumption of 40.4 MPG with a base price of 23,500 dollars.
This goes to show that the Malibu doesn’t stand out in comparison to the Corolla when you talk about price and fuel consumption.
On the other hand, we will not fail to acknowledge that the 2024 Malibu has a five-star safety rating from the NHTSA, which is a good thing to note.
However, the IIHS gave the 2024 model mixed ratings, including a troubling moderate rating in the frontal crash test with little overlap.
Additionally, the adaptive 2024 Malibu cruise control is only available on the 2LT model which requires an extracost, thereby further limiting the advanced safety options available.
Finally, consumers’ and drivers’ comments regarding the Malibu are really not nice and are quite unflattering.
With many stating that the vehicle is underpowered and that the CVT transmission makes it feel unreliable and strange to drive.
The lack of power and unsatisfying driving experience make the Malibu an unappealing option for those looking for a more dynamic and reliable driving experience. Moving on to the third worst Chevrolet Cars this year we have is the
Number 3 – the Chevrolet Silverado
Finally, we have the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, which, believe it or not, enters this top three of those that you should definitely not buy.
This is a large and powerful truck, but it has several drawbacks that make it a bad choice for buyers.
Starting at $45,600, the Silverado 2500HD is considerably expensive.
This cost is further increased if you opt for the turbo diesel engine or the higher-end versions that offer genuine leather and elegant wood trim.
This hefty price tag can be hard to justify given the other problems the truck presents, starting with the worst fuel economy.
One of the biggest issues of the Silverado 2500HD is its base 6.6L V8 engine that makes 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque through a 10-speed automatic transmission.
But this is not the important thing. Although exact fuel economy figures have not been provided, these trucks are too heavy to qualify for EPA testing.
Fuel consumption is estimated to be around 14 to 15 MPG when driving mixed with turbo diesel.
This level of consumption is extremely inefficient, which translates into high operating costs in the long run.
If money is not an issue, this probably should not be an issue nor should it matter to you.
Although the Silverado 2500HD is large and rugged, it doesn’t highlight the advanced safety features that are standard on many other modern vehicles.
The truck has not been extensively evaluated by the IIHS or NHTSA, leaving questions about its crash test performance and its ability to protect occupants in the event of an accident.
In addition, the lack of advanced safety features, such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and other driver assistance systems, is a significant disadvantage.
Other negatives include size and weight which make it difficult to handle in urban and narrow roads or environments.
Its hood, which is about 5 ft off the ground, and its bulky design make visibility and maneuverability difficult.
Although the interior of the high-end models is comfortable and well-designed, the basic models have a simple dashboard with a touchscreen of only 7.0 inches.
Drivers have pointed out that while the Silverado 2500HD is capable and powerful, it’s not an exciting or practical option for everyday use. Plus, several of them reported malfunctions and endless trips to the mechanic.
Now that we’ve seen the worst Chevrolet Cars, let’s continue with the best Chevrolet options.
